Fear the Walking Dead series finale begins filming

Fear the Walking Dead made history by being the first spinoff series of The Walking Dead. The series that paved the way for numerous spinoffs to follow has now begun filming for the final episode of its final season. 

In January 2023, AMC announced the premiere of season 8 of Fear the Walking Dead to be May 14, 2023. The sad news would also come that this season would complete the story that began in 2015. The eighth and final season will release in two parts, six episodes each, with the second featuring a seven-year time jump bringing this storyline current with The Walking Dead timeline.’

Camera operator David Morrison shared on Instagram the news that filming for the last episode has begun. Walking Dead universe veteran Michael E. Satrazemis will direct the last episode of Fear TWD. Satrazemis started working on the main series season 4 and has directed the main series, Fear TWD, and Tales of the Walking Dead.

Fear the Walking Dead season 8

Fans expect a lot from the final season of Fear TWD after the disappointment of season 7. Fan favorite Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey) departed the series during the penultimate episode of season 7, missing the opportunity to reunite with her mother, another fan favorite, Madison (Kim  Dickens), who returned in the final episode of that season.

The eighth season will significantly focus on PADRE, a mysterious organization once thought to be a haven. During the final episode of season 7, Morgan (Lennie James) meets up with Madison, who PADRE employed to abduct children so the organization could raise them as they see fit. She stole Morgan’s daughter Mo, and the pair were last seen heading to PADRE on a rescue mission.

The logline for season 8 of Fear the Walking Dead reads:

"When Morgan and Madison’s hopes to rescue Mo from PADRE did not go as planned. Morgan, Madison and the others they brought to the island are living under PADRE’s cynical rule. With our characters demoralized and dejected, the task of reigniting belief in a better world rests with the person Morgan and Madison set out to rescue in the first place — Morgan’s daughter, Mo."
