Walking Dead characters who will be seen in an upcoming spinoff series
By Renee Hansen
By 2024 The Walking Dead universe will consist of the flagship series and six spinoffs. Fans of the series long to see their favorite characters appear in a new series, but there isn’t room for all of them. So, who will appear in the new spinoffs coming this year and next?
The eleventh and final season of The Walking Dead didn’t see many major characters’ deaths. The most significant in the series finale was Rosita (Christian Serratos), leaving a massive amount of characters who could appear in one of the series currently in production or a new series down the road. The actors already announced for the upcoming spinoffs have teased that other familiar faces could appear in these stories.
The first new spinoff to release will be The Walking Dead: Dead City in June 2023. This series will feature Maggie Rhee (née Greene) (Lauran Cohan), who has been with the main story since season 2. Dead City will also see the return of Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), introduced in season 6. The duo will head on a rescue mission to Manhattan, where Maggie’s Hershel has been abducted. Season 1 will have six episodes and will be a drastic change from the woods of Georgia to the streets of NYC.
The Walking Dead spinoffs
In the fall of 2023, Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) will return in his own series, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon. Filmed and set in France, this series will also be quite different from the main series, and Daryl will encounter the French variant walkers seen in a coda scene of The Walking Dead: World Beyond’s series finale.
In 2024, Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira) will return in Summit, a series described as an epic love story about the apocalyptic power couple who have been apart for many years. This series recently began filming in New Jersey.
It would make sense for other characters to appear in these series, but hopefully, AMC will keep these announcements under wraps and allow viewers to be surprised.
