Actress Kerry Condon was nominated for an Academy Award in the Best Supporting Actress category for her portrayal of Collin Farrell’s long-suffering sister in The Banshees of Inisherin. Viewers of The Walking Dead may have forgotten that Condon had a role in season 4. She didn’t have much screen time, but her character made a big impression.
Condon’s character was introduced in the season 4 premiere episode, “30 Days Without An Accident.” As Rick does a perimeter and trap check outside of the prison fences, he comes upon a what he thinks is a walker going to eat one of the boar that has been trapped. She calls out to him, and Rick and all the viewers look on in shock as they thought that walkers could now talk!
This was Condon’s character Clara. She begs Rick for help and says she and her husband haven’t eaten for days. He gives her some food he has on him, and she asked about his camp. She wonders if they could join him there.
He tells her he needs to ask them three questions and checks her for weapons. She explains how they were on their way to their honeymoon when the outbreak began.
The Walking Dead – Clara – Kerry Condon
Viewers can tell something isn’t quite right with Clara. When they arrive at her camp, she runs over and starts talking to something, saying, “Rick is going to help us.” When Rick looks away, she lunges at him with a knife.
Her husband had turned, but she kept him because she couldn’t bear to be apart from him. She begs Rick to let her turn as she stabs herself in the abdomen. As she lay dying, she asks Rick what his questions are. He asks them, and the only person she killed was herself, but with the final question, “Why?” she tells him, “You don’t get to come back from things.”
Rick honors her request and doesn’t destroy her brain. Clara’s reanimated self is seen in three other episodes in season 4.
