Fear the Walking Dead is gearing up for an exciting final season this May. Wondercon 2023 was held this weekend, with Kim Dickens, Jenna Elfman, Karen David, co-showrunner Ian Goldberg, and Executive Producer Michael Satrazemis in attendance, with Talking Dead host Chris Hardwick as moderator for the panel. AMC released the official trailer at WonderCon, and things are about to get serious.

The Morgan (Lennie James) narrated trailer features all of the fans’ favorite characters in dangerous situations. Morgan quotes Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) telling whoever is listening to listen to what a friend once told him “You can hide, but you can’t run.” This is such a fantastic shout-out to Rick, who was saved by Morgan in the pilot episode of The Walking Dead series. Rick uses this quote during Morgan’s first episode of Fear the Walking Dead when Rick visits him at the heaps.

The trailer ends with another mention of Rick when at some point after the seven-year time jump that season 8 will experience, Morgan, Grace (Karen David), and an older Mo (Zoey Merchant) revisit Morgan’s old home in King County, Georgia.

The trailer shows that the long sought-after PADRE is quite different from the haven it once thought to be. There are some really gruesome scenes, with more walkers, new enemies, and lots of action. In season 7, Madison (Dickens) revealed that Padre kidnaps children to raise them as they want, and it appears that combat training is a vital part of that.

At some point during season 8, the story will see a seven-year time jump. Co-showrunner Ian Goldberg has stated that all of the characters in Fear the Walking Dead will have concluded their storylines by the series end. Does this statement put to rest any chance of these characters being seen in a spinoff?

Fear the Walking Dead returns to AMC and AMC+ on May 14, 2023, at 9 p.m. ET.
