Fear the Walking Dead is quickly approaching its eighth and final season premiere on May 14, 2023. At WonderCon 2023, fans received a fantastic trailer for the upcoming season and insight into what’s to come in the last installment of episodes for this series. Kim Dickens, who plays Madison Clark, attended the event and shared some great words about the final chapter of Madison’s story.

Fans of Madison Clark were treated to the character’s return in the season 7 finale episode. Madison was long thought dead during the Dell Diamond catastrophe in season 4. Die-hard fans of Madison believed the line that has often been found to be true in The Walking Dead universe “no body, no death.” These fans rallied for her return, and the showrunners finally listened to the fans and found a way to bring Madison back into the storyline.

Many viewers thought it would be challenging to explain Madison’s survival but never returning to find her children. This was explained by her affiliation with the mysterious organization known as PADRE. In season 7, PADRE was thought to be a haven where the US government kept a plan of how to rebuild after a catastrophe. It may have begun as such but has since been twisted into someone’s new strategy of kidnapping and raising children for something that will be revealed in season 8. Ashamed of participating in the abductions, Madison couldn’t think of facing her own children. Sadly, she waited too long, and her son Nick (Frank Dillane) was killed, and Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey) set out on her own, which in reality was Debnam-Carey’s departure from the series.

At WonderCon, Dickens shared her sentiments about returning to the series.

"It’s been really incredible to get to come back especially to get to come back and finish it. I never thought it would happen and I’m so grateful it happened. I think we just found the right way to do it and in the right time. It felt very poetic and beautiful. I was honored to feel like I could be a part of taking it across the finish line with what the show had become."

She went on to say that she missed everything about the show as it has been the greatest one to work on. She praised the cast and crew as hardworking and passionate about the series. Another comment she made is heard throughout The Walking Dead universe, the time on the series feels like family, which is something she really missed. She was also excited to get back into the action shots but didn’t miss all of the water, filming in the middle of the night, and the alligators.

Dickens couldn’t share a lot about what to expect from Madison in season 8 other than that, things will pick up where they left off at the end of season 7.

When the audience question segment came around, one fan said he knows that Madison doesn’t know that Charlie (Alexa Nisenson) killed Nick, to which Dickens replied, “What!?” to laughs all around. He asked how Madison would feel about Alicia’s relationship with Charlie. Goldberg quickly jumped in and answered, “That is a great question, and you should definitely watch season 8,” which brought more laughter from the panelist and crowd.

Fear the Walking Dead season 8 will release in two six episodes segments beginning May 14, 2023, on AMC and AMC+, with the second later in 2023.
