The Walking Dead universe contains several spin-off series, with several more in various stages of production. This begs the question of which ones are worth watching. Tales of the Walking Dead is unique with its anthology formatting, allowing viewers to watch the episodes in any chosen order. That and the fact that someone who has never watched one episode of The Walking Dead but enjoys apocalyptic-themed series could watch Tales of The Walking Dead and understand what is happening.

The six-episode series features new characters set in new locations around the United States at various periods after the outbreak. One episode, “Dee,” does feature a familiar character from The Walking Dead, Alpha, portrayed by Samantha Morton, but a person could watch this episode without knowing her Walking Dead storyline.

Overall this series is a very entertaining look at how different people acclimate to the apocalypse. It is a great series and welcome addition to TWDU that is defiantly worth the watch.

TWD’s Chief Content Officer Scott M. Gimple said that currently, all of the energy is being focused on the new spinoffs, Dead City, Daryl Dixon, and the Rick and Michone series, if these do well, there is more on the horizon in TWDU which could include a second season of Tales of the Walking Dead.
