In April 2023, The Sun Journal reported that producers of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon series requested two front pages from the Sun Journal to be used in the new spinoff series. This was some of the first information released about the series filmed and set in France.
It has been requested that the Sun Journal, a Lewiston, Maine publication, provide newspapers from March 12 and April 16, 2010. The first would see a headline about Oxford Aviation cutting jobs and the latter about a man from Wilton who was killed in a car crash and a fresh new market opening in the lobster industry.
The only information about the scene the newspaper pages would be involved in is that it will be set in 2012 and revolve around an abandoned car in Maine.
This indicated a signifiant flashback scene in the Daryl Dixon spinoff, which was thought to appear in season 2, as filming for the first season had been reported as complete.
Due to the fact that Daryl had never left Georgia until the group started to head to Virginia with Rick’s group, it was also believed he wouldn’t be included in the scene. According to the report, the scene is set in 2012, when he wouldn’t have left the state yet. The fact he had never left Georgia was something he told Beth (Emily Kinney) in episode 412, “Still.”
If you head to the Sun Journal site, you can look at the pages being requested and do some research of your own to see if you can find some clues as to what information could be vital in Daryl’s story.
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 1
The promo video for season 1 of Daryl Dixon shows Daryl in a scene before he arrives in France. He is talking on the radio, informing whoever is listening that he is “in Maine, by the coast; tell you all about it when I see you. I’ll be there in about a week.”
This scene also shows Daryl with his motorcycle as a man who traveled in a truck appears to be approaching him. The man is dressed in camo, possibly military.
If Daryl had never been to Maine in 2012, will viewers see a flashback within a flashback? There is a province of France called Maine, but Daryl says “by the coast” and Maine, France is inland.
Don’t miss new episodes of The Walking Dead Daryl Dixon on AMC+ on Sundays beginning at 3 a.m. ET and on AMC at 9 p.m. ET.
The Walking Dead Daryl Dixon – season 2
Soon after it was announced that season 1 of Daryl Dixon had wrapped filming, rumors began circulating that the series might start filming for a second. AMC wouldn’t make the renewal announcement until months later at SDCC 2023.
Early this year, stunt performer Fred Guerin posted on his Instagram story that filming for season 2 has begun for the Daryl Dixon series.
It has been reported that Melissa McBride will join the series for its second season (see article above).
Filming was halted due to the ongoing strickes, but in August 2023, filming had resumed on the second season due to an agreement with AMC and SAG/AFTRA.
