Walking Dead Survival Sunday celebrated 5 years ago
By Renee Hansen
Five years ago, on April 15, 2018, AMC brought fans a fantastic event called Survival Sunday. This special event featured the season 8 finale of The Walking Dead, followed by the season 4 premiere of Fear the Walking Dead. This was iconic as it highlighted the crossover of Morgan Jones (Lennie James) from the main series to the first spinoff.
The Walking Dead season 8 finale episode “Wrath” saw the surrender of the Saviors and the capture of Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan). Rick (Andrew Lincoln) cut Negan’s throat but allowed him to receive lifesaving medical care, to Maggie’s (Lauren Cohan) horror.
Morgan spends time alone at the Heaps, as Jadis/Anne (Pollyanna McIntosh) chooses to join Rick’s group. While there, he decides he needs to be away from others and heal.
When his story picks up in season 4 of Fear the Walking Dead, he is visited by Jesus (Tom Payne), Carol (Melissa McBride), and finally, Rick, who all try to encourage him to rejoin them. In the end, he chooses to set out on his own.
This would lead him to meet John Dorie (Garret Dillahunt), and now, four seasons later, Morgan’s Fear TWD story will end with the final season of that series.
The Walking Dead Survival Sunday
The Survival Sunday event was an exciting time in TWDU as it was something new and formed a bond between the two series. On April 15, 2018, AMC partnered with Fathom Events to bring Survival Sunday: The Walking Dead & Fear the Walking Dead commercial-free in select theaters. The cinema event also featured exclusive bonus content.
