AMC Networks has announced a new short-form spin-off with the working title of More Tales of the Walking Dead. This series will be a six-part series, likely limited, which will see The Walking Dead Chief Content Officer Scott M. Gimple as showrunner.

Comicbook.com was the first to report the information that was released from the network regarding the series. More Tales of the Walking Dead will be an addition to the growing list of spinoffs added to The Walking Dead universe. Whether or not this series will replace the speculated second season of Tales of the Walking Dead is unclear.

Tales of the Walking Dead premiered on AMC and AMC+ in August 2022 and is an anthology series that focuses on new characters set in the same world as the main series. One episode featured a back story of The Walking Dead character Alpha, portrayed by Samantha Morton.

Gimple had discussed the possibility of a second season of this series but, in an interview with Collider, stated that the current focus is the announced spinoffs The Walking Dead: Dead City, Daryl Dixon and the Rick & Michonne series with the working titled Summit. Regarding a new season of Tales of the Walking Dead, Gimple had this to say:

"Oh, yeah. I hope we do. We’re focusing on these classic characters, this year. The thing with Tales, it didn’t end on this cliffhanger where you’ve gotta get back to that. It’s an anthology show. So, I’m hoping that we can get back to it, but it’s probably gonna be catch all as catch can, as far as within all the other shows. This year, though, is about focusing on these classic character shows, but also, we’re still wrapping up Fear the Walking Dead. And then, there are other projects that have been on the burner, as well. We’re getting the next phase ready."

Fans are hopeful that the newly announced series will feature backstories of familiar characters from The Walking Dead universe. There are characters alive and dead who would make very interesting side stories worthy of an anthology formated episode.

The franchise as several upcoming release dates including the eighth and final season of Fear the Walking on May 14. The Walking Dead: Dead City will premiere on June 18 with Daryl Dixon series to follow in the fall of 2023. The Walking Dead: Rick & Michonne will premiere in 2024.
