The Walking Dead series aired on AMC for 12 years, 11 seasons, and 177 episodes. On November 20, 2022, the series aired its final episode, “Rest in Peace,” which took its name from the final volume of the comic series created by Robert Kirkman. The series used the comic story as source material, often opting to change things up, which made for a great alternative to the comic story.

The announcement for the premiere date for season 11, part 3 of The Walking Dead, which was the last installment of episodes for season 11, was announced at the 2022 San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) event. AMC and AMC+ began airing the last eight episodes on October 2, 2022, with AMC+ offering the remaining episodes, save the finale, one week early.

AMC Networks hosted a mega Talking Dead farewell event in Los Angeles, including several new and old cast members. It was a star-studded affair celebrating everything The Walking Dead series has accomplished in the past 12 years. The series finale of The Walking Dead surprised many viewers as it concluded satisfactorily. The addition of Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira in a coda scene added to the greatness.

The Walking Dead spinoffs

By 2024 AMC will see seven spinoffs of The Walking Dead series. Recently a new short-form spinoff, More Tales of the Walking Dead was announced but little is known about this project.

Tales of the Walking Dead

Tales of the Walking Dead premiered its first season on August 15, 2022, consisting of six stand-alone episodes. The stories in this series feature new or established characters, with Samantha Morton returning as Alpha/Dee for one episode. This series was a great look at new characters in different areas of the United States. There has been no announcement for a second season, but perhaps the newly announced More Tales of TWD is the second season of this series.

Fear the Walking Dead

Fear the Walking Dead began filming its eighth season in Savannah, Georgia. Showrunners have promised the most significant reinvention the series has ever seen in the eighth and final season of the series. After the tepid season 7 response from viewers, hopefully, the showrunners can revamp the series to allow it to end on a high note.

Fear the Walking Dead will begin airing the final six episodes of the series on AMC and AMC+ on October 22.

The Walking Dead: Dead City

The Walking Dead: Dead City, formerly known as Isle of the Dead, will feature Negan and Maggie on an adventure to Manhattan, where the island has been cut off from the mainland since early after the outbreak. This has allowed a walker horde of one million strong to form. Maggie’s son Hershel has been abducted, and she needs Negan’s help to ensure his release.

The Walking Dead: Dead City will premiered on AMC and AMC+ in June 2023 and has been renewed for a second season.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon

The Daryl Dixon spinoff will be set in and filmed in France. Norman Reedus will reprise his role as Daryl, and this series will tie into the after-credits scene in The Walking Dead: World Beyond, where viewers saw a variant walker. Reedus has said in interviews thatthis series will have a different sound, tone, and photography method, making it unique to the fandom.

Daryl Dixon began airing its first season in September 2023 and has been renewed for a second season which Melissa McBride is rumored to star in.

The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live

The Ones Who Live spinoff that will see the return of Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira to TWD universe. This series will hopefully tell the stories of what they experienced after leaving the flagship series to when they finally find each other. Scott M. Gimple has stated it will be an epic love story. The working title for this series is Summit, which will focus on the CRM (Civic Republic Military), the organization Rick was traded to.

Details for this series has been kept underwraps but you can read here on what we know so far.

The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live will release in 2024.
