The Walking Dead: Dead City is a spinoff of The Walking Dead that will focus on Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan). These characters have been enemies since Negan’s introduction in season 6, and even though it appeared they might at least come to some agreement, by the end of the main series, it was not to be. Dead City will premiere on AMC in June 2023, and rumor has it that Steven Ogg, who played Negan’s right-hand Savior, Simon, will appear in this series.

Dead City will take place a few years after the events of The Walking Dead’s final episode. Maggie’s son Hershel (Logan Kim – recast for this series) will be kidnapped by a man called The Croat (Željko Ivanek), who she will track to Manhattan. For some reason, Negan will be the key to Hersehel’s rescue, and many fans believe The Croat had something to do with the Saviors years prior to their introduction to the main series.

If that is the case and Ogg is involved, could viewers see some flashbacks to the early days of the Saviors at the Sanctuary? Ogg’s Simon was killed and seen reanimated on screen, so he could only reappear in a flashback. If The Croat has some beef with Negan from the past, this would explain why Negan is vital to Herhsel’s recovery.

And then there is Marshall Perlie Armstrong (Gauis Charles), who is charged with keeping the peace in a new state called New Babylon. He is also hunting down the man known as Negan. Is he working with The Croat? Or has Negan done something else in the years after the final events of The Walking Dead to get on someone else’s bad side?

Whatever the case, it is exciting to think viewers may get a look at the early years of the Saviors.

The Walking Dead: Dead City will debut on AMC and AMC+ on June 18 at 10 p.m. ET. This will immediately follow the midseason 8 finale of Fear the Walking Dead.
