The midseason premiere of season 4 of The Walking Dead begins with the aftermath of the Governor’s (David Morrissey) attack on the prison. Walkers shuffle about, and the Governor’s dead body is seen with the fatal gunshot to the head. Next, viewers see Michonne’s (Danai Gurira) katana as she looks at the destruction.

She scans the area to see who has survived. She chops through several walkers and then uses her old camouflage technique by selecting two to become her pets. By removing their arms and jaws she eliminates the threat of attack and ties them with ropes to lead them around.

She then comes upon a sobering sight. Hershel’s (Scott Wilson) decapitated and reanimated head. Reluctantly she stabs his head with her katana, takes a moment to compose herself, and then sets out to look for survivors. Que the theme song.

The Walking Dead – Michonne

As this episode continues Michonne goes through many emotions. When she first leaves the prison, she sees a set of fresh human tracks but decides to go her own way. That night she sleeps in a car and dreams of life before the outbreak, which quickly turns into a life of her nightmares. She awakes screaming and heads out, with her pets, for the day. As she walks among a horde of walkers, she sees a walker resembling what she would look like as a member of the undead. This shocks her back to reality, and she executes the entire horde, including her pets, and sets off to follow the footprints she first saw.

Viewers know these are Carl (Chandler Riggs) and Rick’s (Andrew Lincoln), and she will eventually make her way to what is known as the Claimer’s house and reunites with Carl and Rick.
