The Walking Dead: Dead City trailer, is everyone out to get Negan?
By Renee Hansen
Throughout his time on The Walking Dead series Negan, played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan, has made many enemies. While it might have seemed he got his fairy tale ending by the conclusion of the main series, the spinoff The Walking Dead: Dead City appears to bring new heights to his despair, and enemies, new and old, have reared their heads.
AMC released the first full-length trailer for Dead City, and fans have gone wild for what appears to be an exciting addition to The Walking Dead universe. The vast difference from the wooded setting of Virginia alone sets this series apart, but the trailer reveals more than landscape will make this series drastically different from The Walking Dead.
Viewers knew it would take something like Maggie’s (Lauren Cohan) son Hershel (Logan Kim) being abducted for her to seek out Negan’s assistance. The trailer shows that The Croat, played by Željko Ivanek, is responsible for his abduction but is also an old friend of Negan’s.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Morgan had this to share about that relationship:
"He is an underling of Negan’s from back in the day. But he has taken the evil to places where not even Negan in his heyday has gone."
The Walking Dead: Dead City trailer – Negan
The last viewers saw of Negan in The Walking Dead series finale; he had exiled himself away from the main group of survivors with his wife Annie (Medina Senghore), who was expecting their child. In the Dead City, which picks up approximately two years later, Negan, according to showrunner Eli Jorne “he’s in a bit of a down-and-out state.” What has become of his wife and child?
Morgan states: “He’s not with his family, so some s— has happened.”
Not only does Negan have to watch his back with Maggie and The Croat and his crew but another man,Perlie Armstrong (Gaius Charles), is also actively hunting him down. Armstrong is a marshal for a federation of city-states in Virginia known as New Babylon.
"Negan has born this monster in Željko’s character, and he’s got Armstrong on his six, and then he is dealing with Maggie, who probably wants to kill him about 93 percent of the time. So, you know, he’s in a tough spot when the series kicks off. – Jeffrey Dean Morgan"
