The Walking Dead: Dead City trailer what is that song?
By Renee Hansen
A trailer for a series can make or break viewers’ perceptions of whether or not it will be worth watching. AMC recently released thefirst trailer for The Walking Dead: Dead City, and it looks like this spinoff is going to be a wild ride. The trailer shows Manhattan as a concrete wasteland full of enemies, friendlies, and a massive amount of the undead. Another thing this trailer has going for is a fantastic song that backs it.
The trailer reveals that Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) will face many dangerous situations, which is expected in an apocalyptic series. They will meet new people, some who partner with them, others who become their enemies. The excitement builds in the trailer, and the song choice is very fitting.
The song is “Gimme Danger” by Iggy and the Stooges, originally featured on their third album Raw Power (1973). The Stooges is an American rock band formed in 1967 by singer Iggy Pop, guitarist Ron Asheton, drummer Scott Asheton, and bassist Dave Alexander.
One line in the song is very fitting for a series about the undead:
"There’s nothing left alive, but a pair of glassy eyes"
The Walking Dead: Dead City season 1
The first season of Dead City will see Maggie and Negan on a mission to Manhattan to recover her son Hershel (Logan Kim), who has been abducted by a man called The Croat ( Željko Ivanek). This man is someone from Negan’s past, possibly a former Savior. Morgan has described the character as an underling from his past who has taken evil to places Negan never did. They will also encounter many new people who live on the island, some of whom will aid them in seeking The Croat.
Another new person that will be introduced is Perlie Armstrong (Gaius Charles), who is actively searching for Negan. He is the marshal of New Babylon, a federation of city-states in Virginia. It isn’t clear what Negan has done to get on Armstrong’s bad side, but it will surely be revealed in time.
The Walking Dead: Dead City will premiere on AMC on June 18, 2023, at 10 p.m. ET, with subsequent episodes airing at 9:00 p.m. ET.
