Fear the Walking Dead season 8 episode 2 Blue Jay MVP
By Renee Hansen
Fear the Walking Dead has started its eighth and final season in a big way. The first episode revealed much about PADRE, and the second showed a very dark side of June (Jenna Elfman) that has never been seen. The second episode also gave viewers a twisted look at some practices of PADRE that are pretty questionable.
This article contains spoilers for Fear the Walking Dead season 8, episode 2, “Blue Jay.”
Each week Undead Walking chooses one character to be graced with the honor of MVP of the episode. This could be for an act of bravery or a good deed, but it goes to someone who stood out above the rest.
This week the choice was obvious.
THE MVP OF BLUE JAY– JUNE
Fear the Walking Dead – June
The episode shows June preparing for something as she readies medical equipment and weapons. She posts signs warning people about PADRE and is very aware of her surroundings while searching for something. Showrunners and Elfman warned fans that this season will reveal a MUCH darker June.
It is soon discovered that she is hunting down PADRE’s collectors, where she then incapacitates them and relieves them of their trigger fingers, which she collects in a jar, cauterizes them, takes their weapons, and sends them downriver. She then listens to their pain and anguish over the walkies when they wake up. Talk about dark.
But she earns the MVP for having the guts to stand up to PADRE when it appears that most everyone else has bought into their way of life.
June has experienced a lot during the past seven years, including being forced to conduct experiments on humans to search for a way to stop the spread of the virus after a walker bite. Sadly, by the end of the episode, June becomes recaptured by PADRE, forced back into performing the experiments, and loses her own trigger finger in the process.
