Fear the Walking Dead is doing a bang-up job at reinventing itself in the final season. The first two episodes did an amazing job at slowly revealing what has transpired for the survivors during the seven-year time jump. “Blue Jay” was the second episode that saw a significant focus on June Dorie (Jenna Elfman).

This article contains spoilers for Fear the Walking Dead season 8, episode 2, “Blue Jay.”

For her safety, June fled PADRE and set up a vigilante mission against the organization. Elfman warned fans that they would see a much darker side to June than ever seen before, and she wasn’t wrong. She targeted the collectors, who abducted children for PADRE, would knock them out, remove their trigger fingers, send them downriver, and listen on the walkie as they awoke to pain and anguish, realizing what happened to them. Oh, and she kept the fingers in a jar in her cabin.

She had good reason for this, as PADRE was forcing her to experiment on walker bite victims, some of which the bites were inflicted purposefully, to stop the spread. Not to mention they continue to abduct children from their parents, a practice that has been going on for many years.

She encounters Dwight (Austin Amelio) and Sherry (Christine Evangelista) as she believed they were collectors only to learn their son Finch (Gavin Warren) needed an appendectomy. Before the episode is over Shrike (Maya Eshet), Padre’s right hand, appears and forces a walker bite on their son as they watch in horror. He will be June’s new patient.

Shrike tells her that she will have more patients on they way and viewers learn it will be Madison (Kim Dickens) and Morgan (Lennie James). But Madison creates a diversion so Morgan can escape.
