The fourth episode of Fear the Walking Dead’s title alone had the fandom in an uproar. The idea of Morgan (Lennie James) returning to King County, the very place where he met Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) in the pilot episode of The Walking Dead, was too exciting to think about. With Fear the Walking Dead ending with its eighth season, this episode had fans excited for the story to come full circle.

This article contains spoilers for Fear the Walking Dead season 8, episode 4, “King County.”

Each week Undead Walking chooses a character to bestow the MVP title to. The character can receive this honor for a multitude of reasons, a great kill, a heroic feat, or some other fantastic action.

This week the title had to go to this character as it was his episode, and it took a lot of courage to return to King County.

THE MVP OF KING COUNTY – MORGAN

Fear the Walking Dead – Morgan

This week, Morgan returned to the location where he endured some of the most tremendous heartache of his life. In season three of The Walking Dead, after many years, Rick encounters Morgan, who shares the heartbreaking story of how he couldn’t put down the reanimated corpse of his wife Jenny (Keisha Tillis). His lack of action would come back to haunt him.

While scavenging for supplies with his son Duane (Adrian Kali Turner), Morgan would head into the basement of a house, leaving Duane in the kitchen. His son would then be attacked by the walker of his wife, which Morgan was then able to shoot in the head, but it was too late. Duane had already received the lethal bite.

It was never clear if Morgan put Duane down or let him roam. In season 8 of Fear the Walking Dead, it became clear that Morgan could not put his son out of his misery. Believing he could never be the father he needs to be for Mo (Zoey Merchant) until he puts his son to rest, Morgan heads back to King County to do just that.

Jenny and Duane’s deaths have always affected Morgan’s mental state, and returning to Georgia exacerbated his condition. He had to revisit the corpse of Jenny and was slowly able to piece together what happened after Duane’s death. He and Mo found Duane’s reanimated form chained in the attic of their home. He then had to put Duane down to save Mo.

This proved to him that he could be what Mo needs in a father. But in his triumph, Morgan receives another blow when Grace (Karen David) is bitten. Now the clock is ticking as he returns to PADRE so June (Jenna Elfman) can work to save Grace.
