The Walking Dead memorable quotes – a walk down memory lane
By Renee Hansen
The Walking Dead ended its 12-year run in November 2022. Fans will always have a special place in their hearts for the main series and the characters they grew to love. Along the way, there have been many memorable quotes many fans sprinkle into their day-to-day conversations. Let’s take a look at some of the great ones
There are many one-liners fans use in everyday conversation that non-fans just don’t get. For example, “Stuff n Thangs” is a phrase some of us use on the regular, but when said in front of someone who knows nothing of the series, they don’t give a moment’s notice. But fans know this is a classic Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) quote that wasn’t meant to be a big deal, but boy, did it make an impression. So much so that it became a meme used throughout the fandom.
Abraham Ford (Michael Cudlitz) is a character whose “Abrahamisms” made him a fan favorite. He said some of the most hilarious things over his time on the series. One that everyone loves is: “When you were pouring the Bisquick…were you trying to make pancakes?” This was said to Glenn when Abe found out that Maggie was expecting, which led to Cudltz receiving boxes of Bisquick at the cons he attended, which was then donated to food banks.
Everyone’s favorite patriarch, Hershel Greene gave fans a line that is still celebrated in honor of the late actor, Scott Wilson, “I hereby declare we spaghetti Tuesdays every Wednesday. First, we have to find some spaghetti.”
The Walking Dead quotes
Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) is another quotable character. Much tamer than his comic book counterpart, the series Negan still dished out many quotes worth remembering. “It’s gonna be pee-pee pants city here real soon.” Or how about the time he told Father Gabriel, “Holy crap! You are creepy as sh!t, sneaking up on me…” You can view the scene here:
Throughout the series, many quotes have been noteworthy, brought viewers to tears, and others we don’t remember until they are brought up again. But, ask any fan, and they will have their personal favorites memorized and can tell you what happens in the quoted scene.
In season 1, Andrea (Laurie Holden) shared these wise words: “The pain doesn’t go away. You just make room for it.”
A minor character named Joan (Keisha Castle-Hughes), a patient at Grady Memorial, shared these wise words. “I guess it’s easy to make a deal with the devil when you’re not the one paying the price.”
Who can forget Bob Stookey’s (Lawrence Gilliard Jr.) quote, “I’ve been bitten, you stupid pricks! I’m tainted meat.” He said this to Gareth and his cannibal friends while they were eating his leg.
Remember Mitch (Kurt Acevedo), the one with the tank at the prison? His comment didn’t age well. “End of the world don’t mean shit when you got a tank.” Daryl proved to him that a grenade is more important than a tank.
The Governor (David Morrissey) says to Rick, “I thought you were a cop, not a lawyer. Rick replies, “Either way, I don’t pretend to be a governor.”
Other memorable quotes include:
- “Look at the Flowers.” – Carol (Melissa McBride)
- “They’re screwing with the wrong people.” – Rick
- “Shane taught me. Remember him?” – Carl (Chandler Riggs)
- “Am I the only one Zen around here?” – Daryl (Norman Reedus)
Many of the above quotes are from the early seasons including this one from Hershel .
“I can’t profess to understand God’s plan. Christ promised a resurrection of the dead. I just assumed he had something different in mind.”
The final season also gave fans many quotes that will live on to close out the story.
- “This isn’t the future my brother wanted. Not what my my mother and dad fought for.” – Judith (Cailey Fleming)
- “You take happiness wherever you can get it. And don’t ever be sorry for it.” – Carol
- “If I got the chance to do it again, I’d kill you all.” – Negan
The network was free with the f-bombs in the final season, here are some of the best.
- “Tell them to drop their guns or something really f*cking bad happens” – Daryl
- “What the f*ck? – Negan
- “Time to f*ck sh!t up.” – Mercer (Michael James Shaw)
Shaw’s line was actually improvised and no one thought it would be used. But now that it has been, there is no other way that scene could have been as impactful.
