Jeffrey Dean Morgan talks Negan & Dead City on Good Morning Football
By Renee Hansen
Walking Dead actor, Jeffrey Dean Morgan has been promoting his new series, The Walking Dead: Dead City, which sees him reprise his role as Negan. He appeared on Good Morning Football, where the team asked him which NFL coach or player he would choose to partner with in a zombie apocalypse.
Fans know Morgan is a devout Seahawks fan, so his appearance on an NFL talk show isn’t surprising. He was asked what made him want to tackle the spinoff series.
He explained that initially, he thought he was done playing Negan as he has portrayed this character since 2016, and he felt the time had come to wrap up that character. But he thought it was so dynamic and unique when they came to him with the idea of a story set in New York, and loved the idea of being home after filming in Georgia for so long. He felt changing things from the woods to the urban setting made the possibilities endless. Morgan also stated he loves working with Lauren Cohan, who plays Maggie Rhee and is his co-star in the series. He said it just made sense to stay.
He was then asked if he could choose anyone, player or coach, in NFL history as his ZA partner who would he choose. Without skipping a beat Morgan said, “I’d take Dick Butkus.” He said he is just a human bada$$ and wouldn’t even need a weapon.
