The Walking Dead: Dead City’s premiere episode made headlines by being the most-watched drama debut series of 2023. The series has been given rave reviews, with some stating this is the best spinoff of TWDU so far. Dead City features Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan in reprisal of their roles as Maggie & Negan from The Walking Dead.

Dead City season 1, episode 1, “Old Acquaintances,” picks up approximately two years after the events of The Walking Dead’s series finale episode. Maggie’s son Hershel (now played by Logan Kim) has been abducted by a man named The Croat (Željko Ivanek), who she tracks to Manhattan.

She knows The Croat was once part of Negan’s Saviors from the telltale whistle she first heard before meeting Negan. She seeks out her long-time enemy to assist in the rescue of her son. When she finds him, he is in the company of a young girl, Ginny (Zoey Merchant), who he has taken on the care of. She trades protection for Ginny to ensure Negan will help her in her quest.

Negan is a wanted man in New Babylon for crimes he committed there. Marshal Perlie Armstrong (Gaius Charles), a man charged with keeping law and justice in New Babylon, will stop at nothing until he has Negan in custody and makes sure he pays for his crimes.
