The Walking Dead: Dead City is the latest spinoff in The Walking Dead universe and is hands down the best spinoff so far. Full of action and suspense, Dead City uses the continued story of two fan-favorite characters from the flagship series and expands the universe by setting this part of their story in post-apocalyptic Manhattan.
Dead City pairs up Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) on a mission to save Maggie’s son Hershel (Logan Kim), who an old friend of Negan’s has abducted. The Croat (Željko Ivanek) is an evil man once the torturer of Negan’s Saviors and is even more twisted than Negan ever was.
In episode three, “People Are a Resource,” it was revealed that The Croat, a former scientist, developed a way to create fuel from dead bodies. The methane produced is also used as a drug. Perlie Armstrong (Gaius Charles), the marshal tracking Negan for crimes he committed, is captured by The Croat, drugged with methane, and handcuffed in a ring with a walker whose stomach contains the key to the cuffs. Armstrong proves his worth and completes the task, and fights off several other walkers. By the end of the episode, Armstrong informs The Croat that he is tracking a man named Negan, a man The Croat also has a score to settle with. Will they team up to capture Negan?
This episode also saw more about the Tribespeople and their willingness to help Maggie rescue her son. They are very suspicious of Negan once they learn of his past with The Croat. When it is discovered he is also wanted by the New Babylon Marshall, Luther (Michael Anthony) confronts Negan and is killed in the process. Will this affect the Tribespeople and their willingness to assist Maggie?
Ginny (Mahina Napoleon), the young girl Negan has been carrying for, fled the new Hilltop location to reach Negan in Manhattan.
