By Renee Hansen
Actor Garret Dillahunt played fan-favorite John Dorie in seasons 4-6 of Fear the Walking Dead. Dorie, a former law enforcement officer and trick shooter was a gentle soul with an offbeat sense of humor and found love in the apocalypse. He was killed in season 6, and since that time, Dillahunt has been very busy with new projects. His latest movie, Gray Matter released on July 13.
Directed by Meko Winbush, Gray Matter marks his feature directorial debut. Written by Phil Gelatt, writer for Love, Death & Robots, this sci-fi drama is now available to stream on Max.
The story follows Aurora and her mother Ayla who both possess superhuman abilities. Ayla refuses to allow her daughter’s powers to become out of control and trains her to manage them. Aurora must face her past when a tragic accident occurs, and she becomes more in control of her fate.
Gray Matter cast
Dillahunt plays Derek, who, from the trailer, appears to be some type of counselor to Aurora. Jessica Francis Duke, known for her roles in Netflix’s Ozark and Organ Trail, plays Ayla with Mia Isaac, who stars in Hulu’s Not Okay and Don’t Make Me Go, as her daughter Aurora.
