The Walking Dead: Dead City is the first direct spinoff of The Walking Dead, which features characters in the main series. Dead City is set in post-apocalyptic Manhattan several years after the events of the main series’ final episode. The first season consists of six episodes; this week, the season finale will air on AMC and AMC+.
This article contains spoilers for episodes 1-5 of The Walking Dead: Dead City season 1.
Dead City is an amazing series that uses flashbacks to tell parts of the story while expanding the stories of two fan-favorite characters. Maggie Rhee (Lauren Cohan) began her story in season 2 of The Walking Dead. Years later, Maggie’s son Hershel (Logan Kim) has been abducted by a former member of the Saviors.
Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), former leader of the Saviors and Maggie’s long-time enemy, is the key to the safe rescue of her son. While viewers were led to believe that The Croat (Željko Ivanek) raided Maggie’s community for their grain stores, episode 5 revealed the truth. Maggie has always intended on trading Negan for her son.
The Walking Dead: Dead City season finale
AMC will air the season finale of Dead City on Sunday, July 23, at 9 p.m. ET. AMC+ subscribers can view this episode three days early on July 20.
As the final episode airs, more will be revealed about The Croat’s intentions with Negan, as it appears he isn’t set on killing him. He and his partner, The Dama (Lisa Emery), are both anxious to capture Negan, but the purpose has yet to be revealed.
Ginny (Mahina Napoleon), the young girl in Negan’s care, knows of Maggie’s lies and frantically searches Manhattan to locate Negan. Will she get to him before Maggie can make the trade?
In the previous episode, Marshal Armstrong was still hell-bent on bringing Negan back to New Babylon, where he is wanted for murder.
So much to wrap up in the final episode. There have been rumors the series could get a second season, which could mean season 1 will end on a cliffhanger.
