By Renee Hansen
Walking Dead actor, Michael Rooker is well known for portraying Merle, the older Dixon brother in the series. He appeared in two episodes of the first season and would surprisingly reappear in season 3 as one of the Governor’s (David Morrissey) henchmen. Rooker made a surprise appearance in the third installment of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
Rooker portrayed fan-favorite Yondu, a Centaurian who led an exiled fraction of the Ravagers. He was the adoptive father of Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), who initially betrayed him, but they fought together in the first movie against Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace). He would sadly lose his life in the second movie in the battle against Ego (Kurt Russell).
YES!! He does appear in the third movie, so tread lightly if you read on because there will be spoilers below about how Rooker reprises his role for the third film.
Michael Rooker as Yondu
In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Yondu appears in an Obi-Wan-esque cameo in a battle sequence. He guides Kraglin (Sean Gunn) during a battle on Knowhere as he welds the Yaka Arrow. His words to Kraglin to trust himself remind one of Obi-Wan’s words to Luke to use the force. Together it is a success, and he can save several people.
The arrow was Yondu’s signature weapon which he told Quill he used his heart to fly. After sacrificing himself in the second movie Rocket (Bradley Cooper) finds the broken pieces of his arrow, who, along with Quill, repairs and gifts to Kraglin.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is currently in theaters and is reportedly the film series’ final installment. It has been given positive reviews sighting a satisfying conclusion to the trilogy.
