In an interview with Entertainment Weekly ( before the current SAG–AFTRA strike), Norman Reedus talks about the upcoming spinoff, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, set and filmed in France. While he has nothing but positive memories of his 12 years on The Walking Dead, he is excited for fans to see the latest journey of Daryl Dixon.

The new series will be something entirely new for Daryl. Reedus tells EW, “We’re making art.” He has been very descriptive of the new series in other interviews, stating this series is a restart for Daryl, and the tone, sights, and sounds are vastly different from any other series in TWDU.

Reedus explains that after being on one of the biggest series on TV, the spinoff gives the creators freedom to explore a different side of Daryl. He will be entirely out of his element in a foreign country where he battles with his conscience as he decides whether to find his way home or help those he encounters.

"I feel like we’re not cranking it out for numbers on a Sunday night. We’re making art, and there’s moving dialogue,” Reedus says. “It’s a different animal and it’s beautiful, it’s touching, and it’s sort of amazing to look at and listen to and watch and feel.”"

Reedus feels Daryl Dixon is something really personal. The series sets its own tone while including elements of The Walking Dead. This is something The Walking Dead: Dead City was also able to convey. Die-hard Walking Dead fans enjoyed the familiarity of Dead City and were fascinated by the new landscape.

"“With this, there’s something really personal to me about what we’re doing, and it just feels so right. We have all the elements of The Walking Dead that people love. There are tears and screams and it’s full of all the things that the original show had — especially those early years of The Walking Dead — but it’s also unique and going to speak for itself.”"

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon

AMC has announced that the series is renewed for a second season ahead of the September 10 premiere. This series will follow Daryl as he arrives in France and the people he meets along the way.

He encounters The Union of Hope, a group of nuns who live at an Abby where a young boy, Laurent (Louis Puech Scigliuzzi) resides. One of the nuns, Isabelle (Clémence Poésy), believes Daryl has been sent by God to assist Laurent on his journey to revive humanity. He will encounter many others, including Fallou (Eric Ebouaney), who is on the side of the resistance.
