Skybound to release new Universal Dracula Comic Series
Skybound Comics was founded in 2010 by the creator of The Walking Dead, Robert Kirkman, and co-founded by Producer of TWD, Dave Alpert. The company has grown into an international entertainment giant from games to comics and inspiring television series.
Arguably, Kirkman’s most popular comic series released by Skybound is The Walking Dead franchise. The first issue of TWD was released on October 8, 2003. A full-color release then came ten years later to commemorate the decade-long anniversary.
Thirteen years after the founding of Skybound Entertainment, they are still releasing incredible comics set to take the World by storm. And this time, there is set to be a horror icon revived. Universal Monster’s Count Dracula!
Skybound to release Dracula Comics
Kirkman is no stranger to vampires and the horror genre. Recently, he produced Reinfield, starring Nicolas Cage and Nicholas Hoult. Unfortunately, it didn’t do as well at the box office as hoped. However, the comedic aspects won over a lot of fans – myself included!
Universal Monsters are globally iconic faces in Horror. ComicBook.com reports that Skybound is releasing a line of official Universal Monsters comics after securing a license, the first series being Dracula. James Tynion IV will be writing the series. The comic art will be by Martin Simmonds and draw a lot from Universal’s original Dracula, the fantastic Bela Lugosi.
The Dracula series will consist of four issues, released monthly. The first issue will be released on October 25 – just in time for Halloween! So far, there has also been mention of three variations of cover.
The story follows a tale set within a mental asylum and a new patient who enters. There will also be features from popular characters such as Renfield and Van Helsing. It will be interesting to see if they draw on more comparisons to the nostalgic memories we have of them.
There haven’t been many more details mentioned, but hopefully, more classic Monsters will be brought to comic book life in the future. Which I think is great for horror fans. And being a fan of the movies myself – I cannot wait!
Issue one of the Universal Monsters Dracula Comic will be available from select comic book stores on October 25. Alternatively, you can pre-order online from Image Comics here.
