Who is Edwin Jenner (Noah Emmerich) in The Walking Dead?
By Renee Hansen
The Walking Dead had many doctors appear on the series during the 12-year run. But most of them had terrible luck and didn’t last long. One doctor who appeared in season 1 was only featured in two episodes but did return in The Walking Dead: World Beyond coda scene; this was Dr. Edwin Jenner.
Portrayed by Dark Winds actor Noah Emmerich, Jenner was the last man standing at the CDC in Atlanta. He worked as a virologist and was intelligent and caring. Long after everyone either fled the facility or ended their lives, Jenner continued his research, a promise he made to his dying wife.
Jenner appeared to have a positive outlook on finding a cure, but he lost motivation after his wife’s death. He died, preferring a peaceful end to the horrors and cruelty of the world; he blew up the CDC facility with former Atlanta group member Jacqui (Jeryl Prescott Sales).
Dr. Edwin Jenner – The Walking Dead: World Beyond
In World Beyond’s series finale coda scene, a French woman viewed an old video that Jenner sent to some French researchers. In The Walking Dead, he told Rick (Andrew Lincoln) that the French were the last holdouts as far as research and were onto something as far as a cure. But it has been speculated that while searching for a cure they created a varian walker.

This scene ultimately ties to the new spinoff, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, filmed and set in France. Daryl washes ashore in France and discovers a crazy new variant walker called burners.
