The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon episode 2 review, release date, and photos
By Renee Hansen
The second episode of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon spinoff, “Alouette” (Lark), was written by Jason Richman and showrunner David Zabel and directed by Daniel Percival, who also directed episode one. This episode is noticeably distinct from the first in a fantastic way.
The second episode picks up after the events of the first, with the majority of the nuns at St. Bernadette being slaughtered, but not before they took out their share of Codron’s (Romain Levi) guerrier. By the end of the first episode, Daryl (Norman Reedus) has been reassured by Isabelle (Clemence Poesy) that she will see him to the port, the only location where he may be able to begin his journey home. He agrees to accompany her, Laurent (Louis Puech Scigliuzzi), and Sylvie (Laïka Blanc-Francard) to The Nest, where they have allies who can adequately school Laurent to fulfill his destiny.
“Alouette” is a very emotional episode that shows much more about Isabelle’s story, revealing vital information about Laurent, and viewers will be shocked to see Daryl Dixon pray. There are many touching moments, and for those who have wondered, “Why France?” Because it fits Daryl’s story in a way you could never imagine.
In an interview with Collider, episode EP Greg Nicotero shared that this series is in the style of Kung Fu or Then Came Bronson, with a bit of Fugitive thrown in. The main character is out meeting new people who change his life, and he impacts theirs. The first two episodes reflect this storytelling style, doing precisely what Nicotero describes as “changing up the spirit and the vibe of the show.”
This episode will also introduce Adam Nagaitis, as Quinn described as “a displaced Brit who has become powerful in post-apocalyptic Paris as a black marketeer and the owner of the Demimonde, a sexy underground nightclub.”
