The Walking Dead universe has been making headlines with the success of the recent spinoff, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon which premiered in September 2023. Fans are thoroughly enjoying the new series which follows Daryl to France. Next, AMC will release The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, a spinoff that sees the return of Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira).

The newest series will again expand TWDU as a continuation of Rick and Michonne’s stories. The couple has been separated for years, but neither has given up hope of reuniting with the other. The bond between them is strong, and though much time has passed, the apocalyptic power couple will be reunited.

The spinoff is reported to be a limited series, which means this new addition to TWDU could run for one season only.

The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live episode count

Like all other first seasons in TWDU, The Ones Who Live will consist of six episodes. What was initially set to be a trilogy of movies has now been sized down to this new spinoff. While it doesn’t seem like enough time to tie up the lives of these two characters, if AMC continues to do as well with The Ones Who Live as has been done with Dead City and Daryl Dixon, it should be outstanding.

The newest spinoff series is set to release in 2024, and AMC recently came to an agreement with SAG/AFTRA to allow production for The Ones Who Live to resume.

The Ones Who Live cast

Joining Lincoln and Gurira in this series arePollyanna McIntosh, who will reprise her role as Jadis, and Lucifer actress Lesley-Ann Brandt, who will play a new character, Pearl Thorne. As with all new series, rumors have been circulating, and one rumor for this series is that Terry O’Quinn could portray Major General Beale, a high-ranking Civic Republic official. AMC hasn’t announced this, so time will tell. Three other actors revealed their involvement in the series on social media: Scott McPherson, Frankie Quinones, and Jose Rodriguez.
