Was it a dream or hallucination? Absolutely one of those, but that scene in episode 4 of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon opens up new possibilities where Daryl (Norman Reedus) is concerned and what he believes about Laurent (Louis Puech Scigliuzzi). This episode picks up where the previous left off when Daryl falls into the unknown when the roof collapses after his fight with Codron (Romain Levi).

There are numerous mysteries involving Laurent, who The Union of Hope believes will lead humanity’s revival. Viewers have seen him express how he feels things in his stomach; he sensed Daryl’s sadness and even quoted Judith’s (Cailey Fleming) exact words to Daryl.  He was able to console a previously unconsolable window, and in the latest episode, although in a dream, he prayed, and the undead ignored him and walked right around him.

While these things don’t exactly prove anything concrete, Laurent is a special boy. Is he the cure or immune? It doesn’t appear that is the direction this series is going. Instead, in The Walking Dead, Daryl Dixon focuses on the spiritual aspect of Laurent, of which a monk who visited the Abbey stated he fulfills a prophecy.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – Daryl’s dream

Until now, Daryl has made it clear that he is skeptical of this notion. But when he witnessed Laurent consoling the widow, he watched intently with a new look on his face. Is he beginning to see what the others believe they see in this young boy?

While underwater after his rooftop fall, Daryl envisions Laurent approaching him, with walkers close behind. Daryl yells for the boy, who simply stops and prays, and the walkers avoid him. This isn’t something that actually occurred, but it is a significant scene that will likely come back to mean something more.

Daryl is becoming more attached to Laurent as time goes by. He also sees things that Laurent is doing or saying, making Daryl question whether or not he has some special gift.

With only two episodes remaining, the first season of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon is about to get even more interesting.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon airs new episodes weekly on Sundays on AMC and AMC+. The season finale airs on October 15.
