The Walking Dead universe contains many mysteries that will likely never be solved. Most of these center around missing characters never heard from again. If the creators of the new spinoffs have the opportunity to solve some of these for viewers, they most certainly should. The Rick and Michonne series, The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, has the opportunity to solve the mystery of Heath (Corey Hawkins).

When a series pushes a character out of the story without an explanation, it is a disservice to the fans who enjoy the story and perhaps that character. Understandably, a detailed account of each missing person may not be feasible, but a mention or short explanation would be courteous.

What episode did Heath disappear?

In the season 7 episode “Swear,” Tara (Alanna Masterson) and Heath went on a two-week scavenging mission. This led to Tara discovering Oceanside, and Heath disappears without a trace or mention after that.

What happened to Heath in The Walking Dead?

The episode shows that Tara and Heath used the RV for their journey, and Heath is ready to head back home. Tara convinces him to use one more day to search for medicine and ammo.

While traveling, they come upon a bridge barricaded with cars, tarps, dumpsters, and a large pile of sand. Tara finds a duffle bag protruding from the pile and steps to retrieve it. While pulling on the bag, the pile collapses and unleashes walkers who had been trapped. The walkers attack them, and Tara eventually falls off the bridge. The episode follows Tara and her adventure in Oceanside.

When she returns, Heath is gone. She sees a walker who resembles Heath but discovers it isn’t him. All that remains are his broken glasses and a badge that reads “PPP.” The RV is gone, and she sees the tire tracks, believing he was able to escape safely.

When Tara returns to Alexandria, no one inquires about Heath or mentions him again.

Will Heath ever return to The Walking Dead universe?

At some point, showrunner Angela Kang confirmed in an interview that Heath was abducted by Jadis (Pollyanna McIntosh) and The Scavengers, who traded him to the CRM (Civic Republic Military) for supplies, an act she regularly performed.

This is the same organization Jadis would trade Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) to gain access to the community. In The Walking Dead: World Beyond, she would be revealed as Warrant Officer Jadis Stokes, a high-ranking CRM member.

The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live will focus on the CRM; this would be an opportune time to give at least insight into what happened to Heath. It would be even more interesting to see him and discover what has occurred since his abduction.

The Ones Who Live is a six-part series that focuses on the epic love story of Rick and Michonne that will premiere in 2024. Only time will tell if they include any information regarding Heath.
