AMC excited the fandom with several outstanding announcements during the 2023 New York Comic Con (NYCC) event. Some announcements centered around the Rick and Michonne series, The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, including a few new cast member announcements, including the actor who will play Major General Beale. Who is this character?

The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live will see Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira reprise their roles as the badass couple of Rick and Michonne. AMC has announced the return of another familiar face for this series, Pollyanna  McIntosh, in the role she previously played on The Walking Dead and the World Beyond spinoff. She rescued Rick in season 9 of the main series and escaped in a CRM (Civic Republic MIlitary) helicopter. Using Rick as her ticket to enter the organization, she would climb the ranks and be introduced as Warrant Officer Jadis Stokes in the second spinoff, The Walking Dead: World Beyond. Interestingly, she took Father Gabriel’s (Seth Gilliam) last name.

At NYCC 2023, Matt Jeffers was announced to portray a new character named Nat, of which no details have been released. Rumors had circulated that Terry O’Quinn would join the cast as Major General Beale; this was officially announced at NYCC.

Lesley-Anne Brandt, well known for her role in Lucifer,  was previously announced to portray a character named Pearl Thorne.

Who is Major General Beale in The Ones Who Live?

The Walking Dead: World Beyond was a limited coming-of-age series revealing much about the mysterious CRM. Although never seen, Major General Beale was depicted as an influential figure in the Civic Republic (CR). He is a ruthless man who ordered the destruction of several communities, of which over 100,000 people were killed.

He was heard in a conversation with Jadis, which showed him as a strict ruler who is always obeyed. Jadis was respectful but had no qualms about warning him of significant information that had been leaked. She promised to take care of the issues and thanked him for placing trust in her to complete the task of ensuring the scientist’s research continued.

Although the elder Beale was never seen, his son Mason (Will Meyers) was featured and sided with his father’s group. This was even after he learned of all the horrific acts the CRM and his father were responsible for. Mason’s inclusion in The Ones Who Live hasn’t been announced.

In the Rick and Michonne scene featured after the series finale of The Walking Dead, the helicopter pilot tells Rick, “Like he told you, There’s no escape from the living.” Could the pilot be referring to Beale as the HE who said this to Rick? He seems to be a prisoner, but one that is vital to the CRM as they generally shoot anyone who escapes.

It will be exciting to see Terry O’Quinn join TWDU as Major General Beale in The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live. Don’t miss the premiere in February 2024.
