What will The Walking Dead: The Ones Who live be about?
By Renee Hansen
The next new spinoff to join AMC’s long list of Walking Dead series will be The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live. This is commonly known as the Rick and Michonne series, as it will see Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira reprise their roles as the characters they played in the original series. What will the new series be about?
AMC revealed new information regarding the series at the 2023 NYCC. The Ones Who Live will debut on AMC and AMC+ in February 2024, and a new teaser was also released. The network also rolled out brand-new images of Rick and Michonne.
Other exciting news was the announcement that Pollyanna McIntosh will reprise her role as Jadis for the series. Rumors had circulated that McIntosh would star in the series, but it is good to have confirmation of this. Terry O’Quinn, another actor rumored to be involved, was announced to portray Major General Beale, a powerful leader within the CRM (Civic Republic Military). Matt Jeffers was also announced to play the role of Nat, a character of which no details have been released. They join previously announced Lesley-Ann Brandt, who will play Pearl Thorne.
The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live – what is the story about?
Described as the continuation of Rick and Michonne’s epic love story, the six-episode series will feature the couple’s journey back to one another. In season 9 of The Walking Dead, Rick was thought to have died in a bridge explosion. Using the name Anne at the time, Jadis rescued Rick and used him as her ticket to join the CRM, where she climbed the ranks to become Warrant Officer Jadis Stokes. This was revealed in The Walking Dead: World Beyond spinoff.
In season 10, Michonne discovers that Rick survived the explosion and sets out to find him. In a code scene after The Walking Dead series finale episode, viewers got the first glimpses of Rick and Michonne since they departed the series. This was a highlight for fans who have missed the power duo of the apocalypse.
Since the CRM is the group holding Rick, it is excpected to see much more about this organization. The CRM is the military branch of the Civic Republic (CR) a community with more than 200,000 residents. The CR was created as a last hope to rebuild civilization.
The Ones Who Live will feature the reunion of Rick and Michonne and hopefully reveal more of what has transpired since their stories ended in the main series. Check out the latest teaser below, where Rick explains that he tried to get away but failed.
