The Walking Dead original cast

Happy 13th anniversary to The Walking Dead series. No one could have ever imagined that this series would create a universe so unique and diverse. Each of the seven series brings new insight into the undead apocalypse and introduces fascinating characters.

The Walking Dead began its run on October 31, 2010, and the final episode aired on November 20, 2022, 12 years later. It was a bittersweet time to be a TWD Family member as fans look back and remember all the characters who have come and gone during the series. The Walking Dead has always been more than a TV show; it is the heart and soul of TWD Family, a group established because a TV series formed a special bond among the viewers.

Fans will never forget the first scene of the series when Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln), an actor many viewers fondly remembered from Love Actually, had to shoot a child walker. It was a gutsy move to make the first walker kill an undead child. This was when fans knew this wasn’t your average apocalypse series. The pain Rick experienced when he realized he would have to put down a child was felt by everyone watching.

The pilot episode would also introduce viewers to Morgan Jones (Lennie James) and his son Duane (Adrian Kali Turner). Morgan would become a foundational character as he first saves our hero Rick Grimes. He would be gone for several seasons, seen again and gone. But, during season 5, he returned as a regular cast member and would be the first-ever crossover character in the fourth season of the spinoff series Fear the Walking Dead.

Season 1 introduces fans to characters who would go on to be vital in this series, including several not featured in the comic story by Robert Kirkman, which the series uses for source material.

Some of the iconic moments from season 1 include the reunion between Rick and his family. Glenn comes to the rescue and saves Rick. The scene where Rick and Glenn first use walker guts as camouflage. Merle being handcuffed and left on the rooftop in Atlanta. The CDC and Dr. Jenner would go on to be significant years later.
