Fear the Walking Dead – Dwight and Sherry return to the Sanctuary
By Renee Hansen
Dwight and Sherry are two characters in The Walking Dead universe in the group of a few who have crossed over to another series. They began their story on The Walking Dead and would crossover to Fear the Walking Dead in seasons 4 and 5. Fear TWD is currently airing its final episodes, and episode 9 sees Dwight and Sherry return to the Sanctuary, a place that holds no fond memories for either.
Austin Amelio has portrayed Dwight since season 6 of The Walking Dead. He was a member of the Saviors with his wife Sherry, played by Christine Evangelista. While they acclimated to life at the Savior’s home, the Sanctuary, they were never fully invested in the Savior’s way of life but did so to ensure their survival.
After the All Out War, Dwight is exiled by Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus), who only did so because Sherry helped him escape the Sanctuary. He told Dwight to find his wife and never return.
Dwight and Sherry – Fear the Walking Dead
While searching for his wife, Dwight would crossover to Fear TWD, where he kept his search ongoing. He eventually meets Morgan Jones (Lennie James), another crossover character he knew previously.
He would eventually find Sherry, and their relationship has been strained since then. During the first part of the eighth and final season, after their son Finch (Gavin Warren) dies, they decide to part ways as they believe they can never be happy today as grief always follows them. They don’t want to continue hurting one another.
In the second half of season 8 of Fear TWD, Sherry is seen in the first episode of this segment of the series, but nothing is seen of Dwight.
Sunday, November 5, the new episode “Sanctuary” will feature both characters, along with June (Jeanna Elfman), and it appears they will return to the Sanctuary and possibly their old home. The Sanctuary has nothing but bad memories for both, but it seems Dwight may have set out on his own with Sherry and June to follow.
One interesting thing about the trailer is that there appear to be walkers at the Sanctuary, but when Negan visited previously, it was empty. Has someone new begun to use the location? Are any old Saviors still around who might want to try their hand at being a leader?
The trailer shows Dwight yelling “You should have killed me when you had the chance,” but there is no indication of who he is yelling at. It also appears that Sherry becomes trapped under a fence that is crawling with walkers.
This could be a great episode with some flashbacks to the days of the Saviors.
Fear the Walking Dead’s new episodes air Sunday on AMC and AMC+ leading to the two-episode series finale on November 19.
