Watch Fear TWD’s Colman Domingo in Rustin, now streaming on Netflix

This weekend is HUGE for Emmy award-winning actor Colman Domingo. Not only will the final episodes of Fear the Walking Dead air on AMC and AMC+, but his first feature film has been released on Netflix. The biopic about activist Bayard Rustin, titled Rustin, stars Domingo in the titular role.
Rustin was the 1963 March on Washington organizer who rarely received credit for his part in the march. The movie chronicles the planning of the historical event, which featured Martin Luther King Jr.’s iconic “I Have a Dream” speech. Rustin is a gay, charismatic Civil Rights leader who dedicated his life to activism and was posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2013.
The event drew over 250,000 people to the foot of the Lincoln Memorial, with millions of others watching live from their homes. The event protested racial discrimination and supported significant civil rights legislation pending in Congress.
The film is directed by Tony award-winning George C. Wolfe, who also directed another movie starring Domingo, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. Rustin is produced by Higher Ground Productions, founded by former President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama in 2018. The story was written by Julian Breece, who co-wrote the screenplay with Dustin Lance Black.

The film also stars Domingo’s fellow Fear TWD actor Gus Halper (Will in season 7) as Tom.
Early reviews praise Domingo in this role for the life he gives to Rustin, his performance, and his passion, with many stating he deserves Best Actor consideration.
