The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live who will be the next TWDU villian?
By Renee Hansen
The next exciting addition to The Walking Dead universe, The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, is affectionately called the Rick and Michonne series, as it will continue the epic love story of these beloved characters. But there is a lot more story to tell within this series. A significant focus on the CRM (Civic Republic Military) will also be crucial to this story. As with all series within TWDU, there has to be a villain. Did the new teaser reveal Rick Grimes’ (Andrew Lincoln) enemy for the series?
Terry O’Quinn was previously announced to star in the series as Major General Beale. The latest sneak peek teaser for the series reveals the first look photo of O’Quinn as Beale.
The first mention of Beale occurred in the limited coming-of-age spinoff The Walking Dead: World Beyond. A powerful and influential figure within the CR (Civic Republic), Beale is also ruthless and expects to be obeyed. In World Beyond, Beale was mentioned, and his voice was heard, but he was never seen. The storyline of World Beyond did introduce his son Mason, played by Will Meyers; so far, nothing has been announced regarding Meyers’ inclusion in TOWL series.
Will Beale be the new villain in The Ones Who Live?
The new teaser shows a clip of Beale at the :22 mark, and he looks impressive. Could Beale be the “he” mentioned in the coda scene of the last episode of The Walking Dead?
The Walking Dead series finale gives fans a fantastic treat by featuring a short scene featuring Rick and Michonne (Danai Gurira). The scene gives viewers a glimpse into what has transpired with these characters since their departure.
One significant moment in this scene saw Rick tracked down by the CRM after he escaped. With tears in his eyes, Rick angrily stabs a walker’s head on the shore next to him as he sees the helicopter sent to locate him. Someone onboard the helicopter tells him, “It’s like he told you. There’s no escape from the living.”
There has been much discussion about who this “he” is, and it is possible that Beale could be this person. Rick later smiles, hands raised in defeat, as the helicopter descends. This raises important questions: who is the “he,” who is onboard the helicopter, and why did Rick smile?
The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live premieres on AMC and AMC+ on Sunday, February 25, 2024.
