In season 9 of The Walking Dead, actor Andrew Lincoln portrayed Rick Grimes for the final time in the main series. During episode 5, “What Comes After,” onlookers believe that Rick perished in a bridge explosion. This was devastating to his family and friends, who watched in horror. Viewers were given the real story, which shows Rick’s survival.

The announcement that Lincoln would be leaving The Walking Dead series to spend time with his wife and family, who reside in England, was a devastating blow to the fandom. Rick Grimes is The Walking Dead, and fans were unsure if the series could survive.

In season 10, Michonne (Danai Gurira) discovered that Rick survived and would go in search of him. This was Gurira’s exit from the series.

During the series finale of The Walking Dead series, fans were treated to a coda scene featuring Rick and Michonne. This surprised fans who believed TWD couldn’t properly end without featuring the powerhouse couple. The scene would show what has transpired with the characters since departing the series and that neither has given up hope of finding the other for all the years they have been separated.

Rick Grimes returns on February 25, 2024

Walking Dead fans have longed for the return of Rick and Michonne, and their patience will be rewarded in February 2024. The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live will be a six-episode series starring Lincoln and Gurira with Pollyanna McIntosh reprising her role as Jadis, and Lesley-Ann Brandt joins them as Pearl Thorne, Terry O’Quinn as Major General Beale and Matthew Jeffers as Nat.

Rick has been gone for many years, and during that time, he was able to escape the CRM at least once but was recaptured. This incident occurred before Michonne learned he survived, and one moment of note is that he penned a letter to Michonne, put it inside a bottle, and threw it in the river. This could be another clue Michonne stumbles upon during her search.

He is obviously essential to this organization, as he was referred to as Consignee Grimes when the helicopter caught back up with him. The CRM is a ruthless group that generally shoots before asking questions, which wasn’t the case with Rick.

Rick is the first character viewers meet during the pilot episode of The Walking Dead, which premiered in 2010. The new series will continue his story and fill viewers in on what happened after Rick was whisked away in a CRM (Civic Republic Military) helicopter.
