This holiday season, fans of Alexandra Breckenridge and Virgin River, in which she stars, will be treated to two holiday episodes to round out the fifth season of the Netflix original series.
Netflix rolled out the first ten episodes of the fifth season of Virgin River on September 7, and fans were saddened to learn the final two episodes would released over a month later on November 30. The final episodes are holiday-themed, so waiting until the Christmas season begins was a great idea. This allows fans to view “The More the Merrier” and “Father Christmas” at the beginning of the holiday viewing season.
Virgin River tells of Mel (Breckinridge) and her journey to Northern California, where she intends to make a fresh start. She takes on the role of the town’s midwife and nurse practitioner as she quickly discovers that small-town life is more complicated than she believed it could be.
Virgin River holiday episodes
Season 5 answers many questions that arose from the previous season, including what will happen to Vince, Paige, Christopher, and Preacher, Denny’s prognosis, what trouble Brady has gotten into, and who is the father of Charmaine’s babies. There is also the question of who Mel’s biological father is.
Executive producer and showrunner Patrick Sean Smith, in an interview with Glamour, promises some comedy after the heavy topics from part 1 of the season.
"“It’s just Virgin River holiday coziness times 10. The cast is wonderful and so talented, and the whole crew did an incredible job this season. It was a lot more than they’ve had to do in the past, so I don’t want to try to match that intensity every season; otherwise it’s just turning into Virgin River 911. At its heart, the show is about love, community, romance, second chances, and getting through life. I’m very proud of the season.”"
