FanSided is a vast network of sites focusing on sports and entertainment, with over 300 sites featuring dedicated writers who enjoy the fandoms they report on. Believing everyone is a fan of something has expanded the FanSided network to include major professional sports teams, numerous colleges, and a long list of entertainment sites covering favorite TV shows, music, and other topics.

The 2023 Fandoms of the Year list includes our favorite, The Walking Dead.

This year, the fandom entered a new frontier as the flagship series ended in November 2022. While it was widely known that there were new spinoffs coming in 2023, fans weren’t convinced these stories could fulfill the need for Walking Dead content in their lives.

The Walking Dead 2023 and beyond

Fear the Walking Dead was the first spinoff of The Walking Dead, and in 2023, AMC announced that the eighth season would be the last. This was a disappointment to fans of the series. In November 2023, almost one year to the date of TWD series finale, Fear TWD aired its final episode.

This year, AMC premiered two new spinoffs, The Walking Dead: Dead City and The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon. Both series did a fantastic job continuing the stories of characters originally featured in the main series.

Dead City focused on Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) while they fought the undead on the streets of Manhattan. The series was well received and has been renewed for a second season.

Daryl Dixon took the titular character on a new journey to France. While there, he encounters new people in need of his help, but his main goal is to return home. This series has also been renewed for a second season that will include fan-favorite Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride) with the subtitle The Book of Carol.

In 2024, the highly anticipated The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live will premiere. This story will bring Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira) back into TWDU and continue their epic love story.

Congratulations to The Walking Dead fandom for being included in FanSided Fandoms of the Year again.
