As the Walking Dead franchise finds itself at yet another crossroads, questions are understandably being raised about where it might go next. With the main show finished, its most important sequel series concluding after one season, another high-profile spinoff wrapping up this year, and the other TWD Universe show's immediate future unclear, fans are wondering if this truly is the end for the world of The Walking Dead.
The answer is probably no, as AMC's Chief Content Officer of The Walking Dead Universe, Scott M. Gimple, has repeatedly reassured that fans that there other ideas - and even plans - for future TWD spinoff shows. He just recently confirmed that there are still hopes - and, again, even plans - to make that long-awaited revival / reunion series featuring Rick, Daryl, Carol, Michonne, Maggie, Negan, and more. So that's still all on the table. However, one spinoff doesn't seem to be anymore.
More Tales From The Walking Dead Universe has probably been cancelled
The Walking Dead spinoff that never was, More Tales From The Walking Dead Universe has become a bit of an urban legend among the TWD Family. Originally announced as being in development back in 2023, it was designed as a short-form offshoot of Tales of the Walking Dead that would have essentially been the same, but different. But three years later and there is still radio silence on it.
Fans occasionally still bring More Tales up, talking about it on Reddit threads or social media, hoping that the might get answers about why it never went any further. After all, with the TWD Universe's immediate future unclear, it's the only "commissioned" spinoff left. The only problem is that it has clearly been decommissioned since then.
Scott Gimple revealed in 2025 that there were no plans to do a second season of Tales of the Walking Dead due to the logistical challenges that come from doing an anthology series. With that in mind, it isn't hard to see why a short-form spinoff that would have essentially replicated that format would have been scrapped as well.

It's always important to note that AMC hasn't officially confirmed More Tales' fate, but given the fate of its parent series, the radio silence on the show's future, and the franchise's overall direction shift, it isn't hard to imagine that the cable network simply quietly cancelled it. Remember, this was announced in 2023, prior to the official commencement of the TWD Universe's "next chapter". When that next chapter began, it officially confirmed the franchise's next phase.
While there were always plans to continue the TWD Universe beyond The Walking Dead and Fear The Walking Dead, Tales was the very first post-TWD spinoff announced (with it and the Daryl and Carol spinoff being announced on the same day that AMC confirmed the parent series would conclude wit its eleventh season). But, in an unexpected irony, Tales ended up airing before The Walking Dead ended, clearing the path for the sequel shows instead.
Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride led Daryl Dixon, Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan brought Maggie and Negan to New York in Dead City, and Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira even came back to wrap up Rick and Michonne's story in The Ones Who Live. It was all about the future of the franchise while using legends from its past; there was simply no room for another anthology series in there.
That's not to say that the idea of More Tales won't be revisited at some point. Again, the franchise is running out of projects (The Ones Who Live was only designed to be one-season long and Daryl Dixon is wrapping up after its fourth and final season, leaving just Dead City on the air), so while Gimple and co. figure out what comes next, something like that could come in handy. Realistically, however, focus will probably shift to trying to make that long-awaited reunion spinoff happen as soon as possible.
