If there’s one thing 2025 has proven, it’s that the zombie genre is nowhere near dead. In fact, it’s more alive. From thrilling new and returning series to shocking cinematic experiences, 2025 has given us a lineup of must-watch zombie stories that will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. In this article, we've shared a good list of five zombie shows and movies from this year that are absolutely worth watching!

The Last of Us season 2

  • Where to watch: HBO Max

While The Last of Us isn’t technically a traditional zombie show, it earns its place on this list because it revolves around a post-apocalyptic world overrun by infected humans who behave much like the undead. The second season premiered on HBO back in April, and it takes place five years after the events of the first season.

Joel and Ellie are now settled in with Joel's brother's community in Jackson, Wyoming. However, Joel and Ellie aren't on the best of terms after Joel lied to her last season about the Fireflies. Season 2 also introduces a new character, Abby, who is hell-bent on finding Joel and taking her revenge for him killing her father. In addition, a third season is currently in the works and is expected to start airing on HBO sometime in 2027.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 3

  • Where to watch: AMC+

The Walking Dead franchise consists of many spinoffs, but not all of them are worth watching. However, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon stands out as one of the good ones. The zombie series returned with its third season on AMC in September, continuing Daryl and Carol’s journey through Europe as they face new human and walker threats. Of course, their goal still remains to return home to America. But the journey is far from easy, especially after they find themselves landing in Spain.

The cast and crew recently wrapped filming on the fourth and final season on Nov. 20. Fans can expect this last installment to air on AMC sometime next year.

The Elixir

The Elixir

  • Where to watch: Netflix

The only zombie movie on this list is the Indonesian flick The Elixir. It was released on Netflix in October, and it even made the streaming giant's top 10 movie list at one point. The story unfolds in a secluded village near Yogyakarta, following a fractured family known for its famous herbal medicine business.

When the patriarch tries to develop a new formula, the experiment backfires disastrously, triggering a terrifying chain of events that turns villagers into fast, ravenous zombies and throws the once-tranquil community into utter chaos.

Marvel Zombies

  • Where to watch: Disney+

If you love zombies and anything Marvel, then Marvel Zombies is definitely worth checking out. The adult animated series takes some of our favorite heroes and imagines them in a world overrun by a deadly virus that turns them into powerful, flesh-hungry creatures. It’s a darker, more thrilling take on the Marvel Universe, mixing the action and excitement we love with a chilling dose of horror. There are only four episodes in this miniseries, so it's a pretty easy show to binge in one sitting.

Zomvivor

  • Where to watch: Netflix

Last but not least is Zomvivor. Now, this zombie show will remind you of the hit Netflix series All of Us Are Dead. The reason why is because it also centers on a group of students trapped in a school during a sudden outbreak, forcing them to fight for survival while facing fast-moving, terrifying zombies.

Its addition to Netflix in October was perfect, given that All of Us Are Dead still has yet to return with its second season. What's even better is that a Zomvivor season 2 is rumored to be in the works.
