The Boondock Saints is a cult classic film starring Norman Reedus of The Walking Dead and Nefarious actor Sean Patrick Flannery, who play twins Murphy and Connor MacManus. The brothers believe they are called by God to rid their hometown of Boston of the criminal elements who run the city.
The Boondock Saints is celebrating its 25th anniversary, which is being celebrated with a return to select theaters nationwide. Iconic Events is hosting the screenings that will be held Nov. 7 and 10, and tickets can be purchased here.
The vigilante action film marked the directorial debut of Troy Duffy, and the premiere was significantly affected by the Columbine High School massacre, which took place only a week before the debut of the film. It was feared that the movie's release so soon after the Columbine tragedy would encourage copycat crimes. The result was a box office failure that would become a cult classic after its home video release.
The film stars, Reedus and Flannery who are joined by Willem Dafoe, David Della Rocco, and Billy Connolly.
If you are unable to attend a screening, The Boondock Saints is streaming on Peacock, AMC+, Tubi, Roku, and more.
The film inspired a sequel, The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day that was released in 2009. Reedus, Flannery and Connolly return for the second installment along with Clifton Collins Jr., Julie Benz, and Peter Fonda.
The Boondock Saints III
For years, rumors have circulated that a third installment of the film series was being produced. In 2024, Flannery confirmed that filming for the upcoming movie would occur between March and August 2025.
The first movie followed the Brothers who believe they were called by God to rid Boston of all the wicked people so that the innocent could flourish. The follow up movie began with the brothers living in Ireland who are then forced to return to Boston after being framed for the murder of a priest.
The upcoming movie is being described as a reimagining and expansion of the franchise. Duffy won't be returning as director, but no announcements for director or additional cast have been made yet. If filming takes place in the spring of 2025, it has been speculated that fans could expect to see a release in 2026.
