The series will not only appear at the event. It will actually open the festival, with episodes 1 and 2 screened as the official opening presentation. That detail matters.
In the television industry, opening a major international festival is a sign of prestige. It typically means a series is either already completed or in the final stages of post-production, and more importantly, that the network believes it has strong creative and commercial weight.
For AMC, choosing to submit Dead City to festival organizers signals confidence in the spinoff’s continued importance within the Walking Dead franchise.
