The Walking Dead: Dead City is a spinoff of The Walking Dead set in Manhattan and continues the stories of Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan). The series premiered to record-breaking viewership numbers in June 2023. Will there be more seasons of the series?

The series was created for AMC by showrunner Eli Jorné and is the first sequel series that features continued stories of characters first introduced in the main series. Dead City was produced by TWD comic creator Robert Kirkman with Jorné, Cohan, Morgan, David Alpert, Gale Anne Hurd, Scott Gimple, and Brian Bockrath.

Cohan and Morgan reprise their roles in the series. They are joined by newcomers Gaius Charles, Željko Ivanek, Mahina Napoleon, Logan Kim, Jonathan Higginbotham, Karina Ortiz, Lisa Emery, Michelle Hurd, and more. Steven Ogg, who played Simon in TWD, appeared in a flashback scene.

The first season focused on Maggie and Negan's quest to rescue Maggie's son Hershel (Kim), who was abducted by The Croat (Ivanek), a former member of Negan's Saviors. Maggie double-crosses Negan, trading him for her son's release. The season ends with Negan held captive by the Dama (Emery) who wants him to join her efforts to take over Manhattan's criminal world.

The Walking Dead: Dead City season 2

Dead City was quickly renewed for a second season, which will premiere on AMC and AMC+ in Spring 2025.

Maggie and Negan return for the upcoming season, as do Kim, Ivanek, Charles, Emery, Napoleon, and others. Several newcomers have been cast for the season, including Kim Coates, Dascha Polanco, Jake Weary, Keir Gilchrist, and Pooya Mohseni.

The season begins six months after events from the previous one, and the teaser trailer reveals that Negan is back to his old ways. Maggie and Negan find themselves on opposing sides of the battle for control of Manhattan. They will soon release that getting out of this will be more difficult than either imagined.

Season 1 of The Walking Dead: Dead City will be added to Netflix on Jan. 13, 2025 along with The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live. These two will join the growing list of AMC originals which are currently streaming on Netflix. The entire seasons of The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead and season 1 of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, can be watched on the streamer now.
