Fear the Walking Dead's Dwight should return to TWDU in a spinoff

Actor Austin Amelio's next project is Bunnylovr, an indie film that recently premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival. The film is written and directed by Katarina Zhu and follows a Chinese American cam girl who deals with a toxic client while trying to mend the relationship with her dying father. Amelio is also well known for his portrayal of Dwight in The Walking Dead universe, one of three characters who crossed from the main series to Fear the Walking Dead.

Dwight began his Walking Dead story as a reluctant member of Negan's (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) Saviors. His heart was never in it, but he had to find a way to keep himself and his wife Sherry (Christine Evangelista), another crossover character, and her sister Tina (
Liz E. Morgan) safe. At first, he appears brave and trustworthy, but after Daryl (Norman Reedus) helps them, he takes Daryl's possessions, revealing his cowardly side.

After being punished for trying to leave the Saviors, he is separated from Sherry and became more hardened to the world around him. He transformed into a fanatical member of the Saviors, falling in line with Negan's demands. It is later revealed that the only reason Dwight wasn't killed is because Sherry offered herself to become one of Negan's wives. After Sherry escapes, Dwight is determined to reunite with his beloved wife.

In season 8, Dwight is fully committed to coming alongside the Militia to defeat Negan. When he is finally defeated, Dwight is almost executed at the hands of Daryl. But due to Sherry helping Daryl escape his abduction by the Saviors, Daryl allows Dwight to live but exiles him from the communities. He also tells Dwight to go in search of his wife.

Dwight - Fear the Walking Dead

During the fifth season of Fear the Walking Dead, Dwight would follow Morgan Jones (Lennie James) to become the second main series character to crossover to the first spinoff in TWDU. His story takes a turn when he finally reunites with Sherry, and their story concludes in the eighth and final season of Fear the Walking Dead.

After the devastating death of their son Finch (Gavin Warren) and the fall of Padre, Dwight and Sherry were uncertain of their future. They thought fate was on their side when they found one another, but after reuniting, they experienced nothing but heartache.

What would it look like to see Dwight and Sherry return in a spinoff?

By the conclusion of their storylines, Dwight and Sherry decided to return to the Sanctuary, the former home base of the Saviors. This may seem odd as they suffered significant losses and worse while living there, but they had a better plan.

They planned to use the location that holds horrible memories and transform it into a sanctuary for all of the children displaced when Padre fell. This would allow them the opportunity to reunite the children with their parents, creating a haven worthy of its name. This story might not be beefy enough for a full spinoff, but it could definitely fit into another series.
