The Walking Dead is fortunate to feature a long list of talented cast members. The series is partly responsible for launching the careers of several notable actors, and it is exciting to see our favorites featured in new movies and shows. In 2022, Zach McGowan (Justin) and Lew Temple (Axel) appeared in an indie Western, Murder at Yellowstone City, now available to stream on Netflix.
The film reunites Australian filmmaker Richard Gray and writer Eric Belgau, who previously worked on Robert the Bruce, starring Angus McFadyen, in 2019. RLJE Films, a unit of AMC Networks, acquired North American distribution rights for Murder at Yellowstone City in 2022. The movie was initially released in theaters and on VOD in June 2022.
Set in 1882, the story follows a former slave, Cicero (Isaiah Mustafa), who travels to a former boomtown in Montana for a fresh start. On the day of his arrival, a prospector who strikes gold is murdered. This leads Sheriff Jim Ambrose (Gabriel Byrne) to suspect the town's newest resident is responsible.
Starring Gabriel Byrne (Hereditary, The Usual Suspects), Thomas Jane (The Expanse, The Predator), Isaiah Mustafa (It Chapter Two, Shadowhunters), Richard Dreyfuss (Jaws, Mr. Holland’s Opus), Nat Wolff (The Fault In Our Stars, The Stand), Anna Camp (Pitch Perfect, Good Girls Revolt), Aimee Garcia (Lucifer, Dexter), Emma Kenney (The Conners, Shameless), Zach McGowan (Shameless, Black Sails, The Walking Dead), and Lew Temple (The Walking Dead, Devil's Rejects).
McGowan portrays Robert Dunnigan a prospector with an iron will and unstoppable spirit. Temple plays a loud mouthed cardshark, David Harding.
The movie was filmed on a site known as Yellowstone City in the 1800s, located in what is now Paradise Valley, Montana. Gray told Cowboys and Indians that it took them over two years to build the town from scratch. The director hopes the site will be utilized for more features in the future.

Zach McGowan
McGowan is best known for his role as King Roan in the dystopian series The 100 and as Captain Charles Vane in the epic adventure series Black Sails. He has also appeared in Shameless, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Terminator Salvation, The Hunt for Eagle One and its sequel The Hunt for Eagle One: Crash Point. McGowan portrays Dogknott in Eric Kripke's The Boys and the spinoff Gen V
Lew Temple
Temple has appeared in several horror features, including The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning, Rob Zombie's Halloween, The Devil's Rejects, and most recently, Ed Kemper. He also appeared with fellow TWD actors Josh McDermitt and Ethan McDowell in the season 4 opener of Righteous Gemstones. The actor is well known for his role as Billy Bob Nugent in the BET+ series The Family Business and its spinoff, The Family Business: New Orleans.
