While we’re loving seeing Jeffrey Dean Morgan as the bat-wielding walker killer Negan in The Walking Dead: Dead City, there's actually another show the actor stars in that is killing it over on Prime Video.
Currently, Morgan has a role in the cast of the drama series Sterling Point. Currently sitting at No. 1 on the Prime Video Top 10 since its premiere last week, the show has continued to grow in popularity.
In the series, Morgan has really shined in his role of Joe, a marina worker who is also the father of Ellis (Jacob Whiteduck-Lavoie).
For those who don’t know what Sterling Point is, the main premise is that the story circles Annie Jacobson (Ella Rubin), a 17-year-old who is not having the best year when she doesn’t get into the summer program she’s been dreaming of for years. At the same time, her estranged grandfather suddenly passes, and she and her twin brother Connor (Keen Ruffalo) find out that a private island estate has been left in their names.
To discover the secrets of her past, Annie travels to this island, seeking to learn who her family truly is.
You might not think Morgan is as big of a character in this series just from the premise alone. Still, things get very complicated when Ellis starts to spark up a relationship with Annie — whose mother, who passed away, just so happened to be romantically involved with Joe.
Honestly, this sounds like a show right up my alley, and if you love Morgan and all of his charm, he really shines in it as a dad just trying to look out for his son, but with his own secrets too.
In press before the season, Morgan spoke out about how he really loved playing a loving dad, something he values very much as someone who has his own children. The actor commented that to shift into that mindset, he’d often get into character while on the plane rides to and from the Dead City set to Sterling Point.
The actor even opened up to Entertainment Weekly about the fact that even though he did feel a special connection with the character, this was the first series where he ever genuinely sat down and watched the whole thing in one sitting:
“I’ve never done that with anything I’ve been in ever. I haven’t seen 90 percent of the work I’ve ever done in my life… Heated Rivalry was the last show I sat down and watched, like, eight hours of TV. That show hooked me.”
I mean, I think we were all sat during that show, Morgan, so same.
This also isn’t Morgan’s first time in a supporting role in a major Prime Vido television show that has done incredibly well. He’s also had roles in The Boys, which, honestly, is one of his best TV roles to me, and has a voice role as Conquest in Invincible, a hugely popular series. But both are quite the opposite of this role — in fact, they lean a little closer to the Negan persona.
Either way, this is still a major win for Morgan, and there have even been talks of a potential season 2, according to Entertainment Weekly, so this might not be the last time we see Morgan in this series. Maybe once he’s hung up Lucille, he’ll be permanently switching over to a fishing rod at a marina for some time. But I’m there through it all!
