It's pretty darn impressive that the Walking Dead franchise continues to bring its fans together years after the original series concluded, but that's a testament to the enduring power of a saga that just won't die. The Walking Dead may be over but there is still life in the franchise via the various spinoffs that continue to entertain audiences year after year - and that certainly won't e changing in 2026!
Offshoots The Walking Dead: Dead City and The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon are set to air new seasons on AMC (and stream them on AMC+) this year so that legacy will continue. The former is set for this summer, but before any of that happens, fans of the TWD Universe can get an exclusive sneak peek of what's to come at San Diego Comic-Con.
The Walking Dead: Dead City season 3 takes center stage at San Diego Comic-Con panel
The TWD Universe is going back to San Diego Comic-Con for its annual Hall H panel, but it might come as a surprise to some fans to learn that the AMC franchise will be showcasing The Walking Dead: Dead City season 3 this year - breaking from tradition as they usually showcase The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon at the event. And that means that the stars and creatives from the show will be appearing, too.
The panel takes place at the San Diego Convention Center in Hall H on Friday, July 24, from 11:30 a.m. PT - 12:30 p.m. PT. TWD veterans Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan - who portray Maggie Rhee and Negan on the show - will be joined by newcomers Aimee Garcia and RaĆŗl Castillo, as well as showrunner Seth Hoffman and AMC's Chief Content Officer of The Walking Dead Universe Scott M. Gimple.

All involved will be able to tease fans with what's coming from the upcoming third season of the show, especially when it comes to Maggie and Negan's newfound dynamic as the potential saviors of Manhattan. Hoffman will undoubtedly speak a little more about the more optimistic, hopeful tone that the third season will possess, while fans are holding out hope that Gimple might shed some light on what's next for the TWD Universe franchise after Daryl Dixon comes to an end this fall.
But that's just the beginning of the day...
The Dead City season 3 premiere will receive a special screening that same day
Yes, you read that right: Hours after the Dead City season 3 panel, the premiere will receive a special screening for TWD fans in attendance at SDCC - two days before the episode airs and streams on AMC and AMC+. The advanced screening will take place at The Loft at Petco Park on Friday, July 24, at 6:30 p.m. PT and it will run until 8:30 p.m. PT.
Needless to say, this is a must-see event for longtime fans of the TWD Universe. Not only do they get to experience the premiere ahead of its actual arrival on TV screens, but they get to do so in a place surrounded by fellow TWD fans. A dream, honestly.
Dead City season 3 will be taking on a brand new tone as Maggie and Negan officially put their differences aside in the hopes of beginning a new chapter - both for themselves and for New York City. The par have been spending a lot of time in Manhattan due to their ongoing war with The Croat and The Dama but, with the help of their friend and ally Perlie Armstrong, they will look to chart a new course for everyone involved - one that is full of hope and optimism.
The show had received some criticism for recycling the pair's long-standing feud - which had reached a natural culmination in the original Walking Dead series' final episode, so retreading that territory for a spinoff was a divisive move. While having the pair attempt to be friends might be equally as shocking given their dark past, it might just give Dead City new territory to traverse instead.
We'll all find out if that's the case when Dead City season 3 premieres on AMC and AMC+ on Sunday, July 26. But for the lucky fans attending that SDCC screening, they might find out a little earlier on July 24!
