Missing The Walking Dead? From is the terrifying horror series you need to watch next

There are so many zombie shows out there for Walking Dead, but From is one of the best horror shows you need to check out.

The world of The Walking Dead has changed quickly over the last couple of years. We went from multiple seasons each year to basically one new Walking Dead-set season each year. After The Walking Dead: Dead City season 3 came to an end, we have a while before The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon returns in 2027.

On top of all that, we still don’t have a renewal for Dead City or any idea whether there’ll be some reunion. The void feels like it’s growing bigger and bigger as the days pass. The good news is that there are plenty of horror shows to check out in the meantime. One that I feel no one ever talks about is From, a series that deserves much more hype.

From is a sci-fi horror lover’s dream

If you’re wondering what From is about, the essential premise is that the series follows a group of people living in a town. The only issue is that this town is in the middle of nowhere, and everyone in it is trapped within its boundaries. From the moment you enter the town, you can’t leave it, no matter how many times you try to drive out.

We begin with a new family that just showed up, confused and actively trying to figure out how to escape. The de facto mayor (played by Harold Perrineau) attempts to make them see that they can’t just leave and that there’s more to this than meets the eye.

If you thought being stuck behind an endless barrier was bad, wait until you hear about the monsters, because they're definitely not fun. During the day, the town is usually free of terrors, but at night, monsters prowl the woods, hunting people and sucking them dry.

They appear as humans at first until they show their true form when torturing or killing someone, which is what makes them so terrifying. Now, this group has to figure out how to survive this and how to get the heck out.

The creatures in From are scarier than walkers

While I love The Walking Dead, I have always been a big critic of the zombies. I mean, they’re fine as is, but they’re slow. After 11 seasons, they’ve become boring. It’s wild that they’re only doing fast zombies in the last season of Daryl Dixon when they really should have done it years ago.

However, the creatures in From are some of the scariest pieces of horror I have ever seen. As I mentioned before, they look like humans at first — which is twenty times more terrifying. Sure, the walkers were humans, but they’re decaying, and their bodies have a clear sheen even right after they die. You can easily tell they’re monsters.

But with the monsters in From, you sometimes can’t tell, which has led to several people being killed in the past because they thought the monster was a human, but it was actually a predator. That kind of secrecy is terrifying for people like us, who are used to seeing what monsters look like. Being able to hide behind a human mask makes the threat that much more serious.

Oh, and guns and knives and normal weapons don’t kill them. There’s that scary and horrible part, too. Basically, anyone in The Walking Dead would be in trouble.

The plot twists will keep you guessing

Another thing I love about this show is that you never really know what the heck is going on — which is what makes it so good.

After four seasons, fans still don’t know several things, and we are endlessly asking questions. Some things get answered; others don’t, but in the end, this show keeps us entertained, and we are locked in from the very beginning.

If you think you know where the show is going, you really don’t. The plot twists are out of this world, and every time we meet a new character, we don’t know whether they’re a friend or a foe who will irrevocably change lives. It’s horrifying in the best way.

From has high ratings and reviews

One of the biggest reasons I recommend this show is that From itself has really good ratings on Rotten Tomatoes and across several other major review sites. Most seasons have landed in the high 90s because the story is so well told.

My biggest issue is that the series is on MGM+, which limits who can watch it. However, Netflix finally picked up the show and is currently streaming the first three seasons, so if you want to check it out, you should totally dive into the mysteries.

Trust me when I say you won’t be missing Walking Dead after you watch this show. It’s truly one of a kind.

You can stream From on MGM+ and on Netflix.
